Gipsy - Jazz Violin 

Described by Yehudi Menuhin as ’’A true violinist of the 21st century’’, Gilles is known for his virtuosity, unique approach to music and the skill to bring joy to every concert hall. He delivers distinctive performances of the standard classical repertoire combined with genres such as jazz and folk from around the world and the result is unique programming merging the borderlines between musical styles.

Born in Algeria to a French family, Gilles started playing music at an early age and began his studies in France. Later, he moved to America and continued his studies at the Curtis Institute, choosing to settle in California. Very early in his career he decided to move away from the constraints of the international music industry, looking for his own way beyond the conventions and expectations related to a commercial career.

As a soloist Gilles has performed with orchestras such as Leipzig Gewandhaus, San Francisco and Vancouver Symphony, Hamburg Philharmonic, Boston Philharmonic, Berliner Symphoniker, Russian National Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, often play directing as well as performing an extensive list of violin concertos.

With his quartet ‘The Colors of Invention’ (violin, accordion, double bass and cimbalom), Gilles presents chamber music with fusion of classical pieces from Vivaldi, Ravel and Bartok with traditional folk tunes. The Ethno Jazz band ‘Meduoteran’ (violin, accordion and saz) is one of the most recent projects in which Gilles is involved, performing in various Jazz and folk festivals around Europe. ‘The Transylvanian Mountain Boys’ is another highly successful crossover band formed by Gilles, together they perform across the globe and have released 3 CDs for Sony Classical.  Gilles was taking the artistic leadership position at the Nordic Chamber Orchestra until the 2017/2018 season.

Gilles has also collaborated with the Celtic fiddler Kevin Burke, Indian violinist Dr. L. Subramanian, gypsy violinist Roby Lakatos, jazz violinist Didier Lockwood and contemporary flamenco dancer Belen Maya, amongst others.

Alongside performance, Gilles is very involved in education with his teaching philosophy connecting strongly with cultural diversity and the freedom of interpretation through improvisation which in August Ariana Todes, former editor of The Strad, reflected in an interview highlighting these eclectic aspects of his career

After participating in the International Menuhin Competition in 1985, Gilles established a lifelong relationship with Yehudi Menuhin. Together they worked on Gilles’ legendary cadenza of Mozart’s Third Violin Concerto, which was filmed and directed by Bruno Monsaingeon.  Known for his documentaries about Gould, Richter and Oistrakh, Monsaingeon directed two further films about Gilles Apap and his approach to music, and declared that the violinist’s “art represents music in its greatest possible purity.”

Violin and chamber music

Sandrine Cantoreggi is first prize of the National Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris, she graduated from the Konzertexamen at the Musikhochschule of Mannheim-Heidelberg and the Graduate of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel of Belgium.

As a soloist she played under the direction of such chefs and artists, Yehudi Menuhin, Vladimir Spivakov, Yuri Bashmet, Georges Octors, Jan Stulen, Stephane Denève, Pierre Cao, Mark Stringer, Jean-Pierre Faber and Dorian Wilson ...

Coming from the Franco-Belgian school, she also integrates the Russian violin school. Its elegant game is imposed by a beautiful stylistic rigor and is characterized by a virtuosity and a dense and warm sound that reflect a fiery temperament.

The Banque Internationale de Luxembourg offers him the opportunity to play a violin by G. B. Guadagnini from 1754 worthy of his art.

Sandrine is a professor at the Conservatoire de la ville de Luxembourg.

Violin and chamber music

Ludwig Müller, a native of Austria, studied violin at the University of Graz with Walery Gradow and Klaus Eichholz and at the University of Vienna with Günther Pichler and Ernst Kovacic and graduated with” summa cum laude”.
Since 1986, Ludwig Müller has been the concertmaster of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.

He has been working regularly with conductors such as Rudolf Barschai, Ivor Bolton, Philippe Entremont, Adam Fischer, Thomas Hengelbrock, Heinz Holliger, Yakov Kreizberg, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir Neville Marriner, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Gianandrea Noseda, Krysztof Penderecki, Vasily Petrenko, Günther Pichler, Gennadi Roshdestwensky, Jukka Pekka Saraste, Jordi Savall, Heinrich Schiff, Peter Schreier, David Stern, Sandor Vegh and Stefan Vladar.

As a soloist and artistic director, he has been performing in important venues like Vienna (Konzerthaus and Musikverein), Salzburg (Mozarteum), Berlin (Schauspielhaus), Paris (Theatre de Champs Elysees), New York (Carnegie Hall), Tokio (Suntory Hall) and Osaka (Festival Hall) among many others.

He has recorded numerous of CDs and performed many concerts in Vienna and abroad with
chamber music groups, such as the Arcus Ensemble Wien, the Soloists of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Ensemble Wien Tokyo and the Bell'arte Ensemble of the Wiener Symphoniker.

In 1998, Ludwig Müller and his colleagues Barna Kobori, Georg Hamann and Christophe Pantillon founded the Aron Quartet at the newly opened Arnold Schönberg Center Wien and they have been presenting a subscription series as the resident quartet of that institution for 10 years. Since then, the quartet has been performing regularly in the Konzerthaus Wien, presents an annual series of 3 concerts at the Musikverein Wien and appears in many international concert series and music festivals.

Since 2008 the Aron Quartet has its own summer festival at the Schloss Laudon in Vienna.

Among many recordings of the ensemble, the complete set of the string quartets of Arnold Schönberg has been praised by the international press as a new benchmark for these quartets.
For the 50th anniversary of Erich Wolfgang Korngolds death, the group recorded his 3 quartets and the piano quintet. In October 2009, the Aron Quartet performed these pieces together with his string sextet and the suite at the Opera de Bastille in Paris.

Viola and Chamber Music

Petra Vahle has more than 25 years of experience as solo violist in orchestras such as the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra (Sweden), Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hilversum (Netherlands) and Sinfonieorchester Basel (Switzerland).

She is one of the European Soloists SEL Luxembourg, of which she is also a founding member.

Petra has recorded CDs in Solo and chamber music for Naxos: Diapason d'Or for Denisov - Double Concerto for 2 violas and orchestra with Nobuko Imai.

She has taught in the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Brazil.

Since 2009, she studied at the World Peace Academy in Basel and in 2015 she deepened her knowledge at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand as a Rotary Peace Fellow, sponsored by the Rotary Club Echternach and Moselle 1630, Luxembourg.

If one wanted to describe the cello playing of Manuel Fischer-Dieskau with only one sentence, this could be: Let the cello sing and tell stories!

From his earliest childhood on surrounded by the voice of his father, the legendary baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, MFD understands intuitively at an early age that making music is always about communication, sharing emotions and passion.

After his studies with Wolfgang Boettcher (Berlin), Janos Starker (Bloomington/Indiana University, USA), William Pleeth (London) und Arto Noras (Helsinki) MFD starts an international career as member of the Cherubini String Quartett, performing on all important concert stages all over the world.

After the breakup of the quartett MFD earns precious experiences as principal cellist of leading orchestras under the baton of such important conductors as Günter Wand, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Lorin Maazel, Sir Roger Norrington, and many more.

Subsequently he performs as soloist and as chambermusic partner of personalities such as Sabine Meyer, Viktoria Mullova, Katja and Marielle Labèque, Christian Zacharias, Isabelle Faust, François Leleux, to mention only few.

In 2007 MFD is appointed Professor for cello and chambermusic at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany.
He also becomes artistic director of the concert series "Amici dell'Arte" Wiesbaden as well as chairman of the concert series "Im Zentrum Lied" Cologne and the "Sankt Goar International Music Festival & Academy", a facility that takes care of young upcoming artists.

Accompanying Piano

From the Royal Festival Hall in London, where she started as a concert performer at the age of 13, Jessica has been developing her talent in the UK and abroad. She has toured Singapore, Malaysia and the United States and has performed in major British venues such as the Barbican, St-Martins-in-the-Fields and the South Bank Center (including a recital of the Park Lane Group series). In addition to Making Music's "AYCA Award", Jessica recently won the "First Prize" at the Mozart International Competition in Greece, as well as the "Most Outstanding Performance" at the Orleans International Piano Competition. Other awards have been added to his palmerès, including the "Boise Foundation Award", the "Hopkins Gold Medal" (2 consecutive years) and the "Alfred Brendel Award".

Born in Taiwan, Jessica went to London to study at The Purcell School for Specialist Musicians, before continuing her undergraduate training at the Royal College of Music in London in Yonty Solomon's class. In 2011, she received her doctorate on British composer Frank Bridge.

Since her arrival in Luxembourg, Jessica has given numerous concerts in venues such as the Philharmonie where her chamber music partners include violinist Haoxing Liang and clarinetist Olivier Dartevelle. In collaboration with Cid-femme and the NAC, she recorded the complete works for solo piano by Lou Koster, while at the same time pursuing a pedagogical activity.

Accompanying Piano

Valérie Mendoza Encklé holds the prizes for piano, chamber music and accompaniment at the regional conservatory of Metz Métropole, as well as state diplomas for teaching piano and accompaniment. She also obtained an interregional prize for 2 pianos.   Medalist of the international competition Maria Canals of Barcelona and finalist of the international competition of Marsala, she participates in numerous concerts: chamber music, 2 pianos or 4 hands with Willy Fontanel, a repertoire that she particularly likes.   In 1999 she obtained the higher diploma of vocal accompaniment of the Paris Conservatoire in the class of Anne Grapotte and in 2007 the CA (certificate of aptitude) of accompanist.   She is a regular accompanist at the Metz Conservatory since 2002.
